Children and the Arts
DesignQuest
Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts runs several programmes aimed at introducing children to arts activities. The DesignQuest programme explains how the fashion industry works and encourages children to create their own designs.
This teachers’ handbook used examples from pilot sites to help schools develop their own activities. I used several different paper stocks for the book to emphasise texture and materials. Using singer-sewing for the binding seemed an obvious solution and, working with the printer, we managed to have the book title as a tag sewn onto the front cover.
The handbook is accompanied by a poster showing all the hints and tips for creating your fashion design. I designed this to look like a clothes pattern and printed it on very thin stock. The A1 poster folds down to A5 and comes in an envelope
